This novel truly gets you hooked to it. Yet, it is a different kind of graphic novel, which takes us through the ups and downs of an alcoholic, struggling writer, Jonathan A. Although this is his first time on comic territory, author Jonathan Ames succeeds in presenting us with a realistic fictional character that has an uncanny resemblance to his personal life. This alcoholic has a truly sad life with some elements of dark humour highlighting the addiction of alcohol, drug abuse and sexual adventures. Meanwhile, Jonathan A struggles to maintain relationships with his girlfriends and family and even publishes his work. This is illustrated beautifully by Dean Haspiel’s dynamic moody artwork. Ames’s unique narrative voice makes it worth reading for sure.
