Always wanted to learn how to make your own comics? Then here is a summer short course for you:
‘Beginners Course to Comic Book Drawing at the Library’, led by illustrator and art teacher Peter Magro, is a Graphic Novels Library Malta & Malta Libraries collaboration consisting of 10 drawing sessions ideal for ages 9-16.

Attendees must bring their own drawing material & equipment (see below).
Certificates of attendance will be issued upon completion of course.
The course will be held Saturday mornings, starting Saturday 20thJuly from 9:30am-11:00am at the Central Public Library in Floriana.
Session 1 – Introduction: Examples of work and comic art.
Session 2 – Character Design/Pencilling/Inking/Shading: Figure drawing – Dynamics and proportion – Facial features and expressions.
Session 3 – Background/Perspective: Landscape – the uses of background – when and when not to use perspective.
Session 4 – Storytelling: developing and creating a story with characters (comic strip or book).
Session 5 – Script writing: The skills in storytelling and constructing a great narrative.
Session 6 – Cartooning characters and sound effects: simplification of design and lettering.
Sessions 7 to 10 – Personalised Comic Strips/Book: Students will work on a personal project (A short comic strip or story – Finishing off with a cover and an edited printed version.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Pencils (2B), Black Fine Liner, Rubber, Ruler/Triangle, Colour Markers, Pencil colours, Marker, A4 or A3 paper (depending on age and skill-set).
