Fondazzjoni Sagħtar (VO/1824) is an independent and autonomous voluntary organisation without any political affiliation, whose main purpose is to serve a social and educational function among educators and students in Malta and Gozo.
The principal aims of the Foundation are:
- to contribute towards the enhancement of the professional role of educators and the advancement of students;
- to provide opportunities for the professional growth of educators;
- to undertake projects or organise activities for the purposes of providing professional training to educators and enhancing the advancement of students;
- to generate and publish educational material.
Fondazzjoni Sagħtar is the publisher of the renowned Maltese magazine Sagħtar. This magazine has existed since 1971 and for many years was published by the Malta Union of Teachers, the founder of Fondazzjoni Sagħtar. It was passed on to Fondazzjoni Sagħtar in 2020, when the Foundation was officially launched.
Since then Fondazzjoni Sagħtar has published almost 20 editions of Sagħtar, which all include at least one comic or two. The Foundation is also embarking on other publishing projects, including the brand new L-Għalliema u l-Istudenti tal-Kulleġġ San Xi Ħadd, by Dean Fenech.
