You are all invited to make your ‘check-in’ at HOTEL BABAW, Joseph Bugeja second solo FANTASY ART EXHIBITION, which is going to be held at The Splendid, Strait Street, Valletta between Sat 29th of October till Sun 20th November, 2016.
The subject matter for the 25 acrylics and oils on canvas paintings are creatures and beliefs that we find in Maltese folklore that spread fear mostly in times gone by. The main aim of the exhibition is to give awareness to these characters that we find in our culture which unfortunately most of them are being forgotten.
The exhibition is titled Hotel Babaw because it will be held at the former ‘Splendid Hotel’, which saw it’s best days in the 1950s when Strait Street was considered one of the best entertainment areas in the whole of the Mediterranean. Stories go that unfortunately it had to close its doors after a murder took place in one of its rooms and it remained in neglect for many years. Rumours say that the place is also considered one of the most haunted places in Malta. These last few years Fondazzjoni Sir Temi Zammit is in the process of turning it into a hub for cultural events.
The event will be held during halloween season, a great time to visit such an exhibition and great care was also given to the opening hours which will be the most convenient for all those who wish to visit. The event promises to be an experience, especially for all those who don’t usually visit art exhibitions, would help to appreciate more Maltese Folklore and the legends that surround the creatures featured in the paintings… and who knows, maybe you would encounter one of the ‘staff from the other side’ of HOTEL BABAW as well.
