Little Rock Motel: Crossroads Book Review (English)

Book Review by Marouska Montebello

As I delved into this book, I found myself grappling with a sense of turmoil. The story is undeniably experimental, and I must commend the authors Alexia Xuereb Diacono, Antonella J. Abela, Joseph Sultana, Sonic J. Aquilina, and Tanya Cilia for their efforts in tackling such a challenging task. It is not always easy to harmonize diverse ideas within a single narrative.

The intrigue in the book is palpable, constantly lurking in the background. The characters are developed gradually, allowing readers to ease into the story. You are in for a thrilling ride, as even though the beginning is quite tame, it is unmistakably a thriller. Each different point of view provides subtle hints, keeping the reader engaged. There are numerous plots and scenarios that kept my eyes wide open, eager to read every chapter.

The style of the story is very intricate, requiring the reader to stay attentive to keep up with the unfolding events. The plot involves a murder investigation where the detective makes it his mission to solve the case as quickly as possible, and this sense of urgency is effectively conveyed.

Additionally, a group of students are given a special assignment to travel to another part of the country. With no information whatsoever, they need to get from point A to point B, marking the beginning of their unique assignment called “The Experiment.”

Old friends embark on a road trip as a reunion, and through their journey, you can feel the discomfort in their lives—the respect they have for each other mingled with embarrassment and disgust. The complex dynamics among the characters add depth to the story, making it a compelling read.

In conclusion, while the experimental nature of the story might be confusing at times, the combined efforts of the authors in crafting such a unique narrative are commendable. The book successfully blends intrigue and character development, creating an engaging thriller that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

This book is just the beginning; the story is far from over. Volume 2 is also in the works.
