Brian Michael Bendis is an award-winning comic book creator (writer and artist), New York Times bestseller, and one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics today. For the last fifteen years, Brian’s books have consistently sat on the top of the comic book and graphic novel sales charts. Brian has won five Eisner awards, including “Best Writer of the Year” two years in a row and was honoured with the prestigious Inkpot award for comic art excellence. Brian is the recipient of the Cleveland Press “Excellence in Journalism” Award and was named “Best Writer of the Year” by Wizard Magazine and Comics Buyer’s Guide for three consecutive years.
Starting out with crime and noir comics, Bendis eventually moved to mainstream superhero work. Bendis was one of the primary architects of the Ultimate Marvel Universe, launching Ultimate Spider-Man in 1999, writing every issue. He was also the creative force behind most of the Ultimate titles including Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Marvel Team Up, Ultimate Origin, Ultimate Six, Ultimate Cataclysm and the Ultimate Enemy trilogy.
He relaunched the Avengers franchise with New Avengers in 2004, and has written some of the biggest Marvel “event” story lines to date. These included House of M, Secret War, Secret Invasion, Age of Ultron, Avengers Vs X-Men, Siege and Civil War 2. Other notable work includes Daredevil, All New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men.
If that isn’t enough for you, he is the creator of Jessica Jones in the comic title Alias, which has gone on to become the TV sensation in the Netflix/Marvel programme Jessica Jones.
For Marvel, Brian is currently the writer of Invincible Iron Man, Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy as well as the new ongoing series of Jessica Jones. His creator-owned projects have included Scarlet (with Alex Maleev), Brilliant (with Mark Bagley), Powers, United States of Murder INC. and Takio (with Michael Avon Oeming).
As a member of Marvel Studios creative committee, he consults/writes on their numerous ongoing film projects, and has been consultant on the Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films. He was also writer and consulting producer for the Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man. His creator owned property Powers has recently finished its second series as a television programme produced by Sony television.
He will be at LSCC 2017 for all three days and event goers will be able to get up-close and personal with the comic legend at a limited exclusive writing workshop, as well as being able to attend discussion panels on each of the three days. There will also be a number of signing sessions scattered throughout the 3 days, where fans will be able to get their comic books and other memorabilia signed.
