SDCC ANNOUNCEMENT: PIERCE BROWN’S OFFICIAL RED RISING PREQUEL, SONS OF ARES, COMING 2017 FROM DYNAMITE

Dynamite Entertainment continues the tradition of bringing the biggest names in literature to comics with the announcement of a new original comic series entitled Sons of Ares, a prequel to the bestselling Red Rising science fiction trilogy from Pierce Brown.

The Red Rising trilogy exposes a color-coded society of the future. The series’ hero is Darrow, a member of the lowest caste in this world. As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants… but the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds – and their only path to liberation is revolution. Sons of Ares will establish the groundwork for the Red Rising universe, revealing the never-before-explored origins for fan-favorite characters of the trilogy.

“I’ve been a fan of Dynamite Comics for years. I couldn’t imagine a better partner to help me expand the Red Rising universe and continue the tale of the Sons of Ares,” says author Pierce Brown.

“Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy is one of the most important works in modern science fiction,” says Dynamite CEO and Publisher, Nick Barrucci. “These books have been acclaimed by critics the world over and are spoken of in the same breath as the massively successful Hunger Games and Orson Scott Card’s timeless work, Ender’s Game. Given the incredible response we have received recently to Brandon Sanderson’s White Sand, I am confident fans are going to be just as pleased as we are!”

From the official biography of Pierce Brown at www.redrisingbook.com: Pierce Brown spent his childhood building forts and setting traps for cousins in the woods of six states and the deserts of two. Graduating from college in 2010, he fancied the idea of continuing his studies at Hogwarts. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a magical bone in his body. So while trying to make it as a writer, he worked as a manager of social media at a startup tech company, toiled as a peon on the Disney
lot at ABC Studios, did his time as an NBC page, and gave sleep deprivation a new meaning during his stint as an aide on a U.S. Senate campaign. Now he lives Los Angeles, where he scribbles tales of spaceships, wizards, ghouls, and most things old or bizarre.

Dynamite Entertainment’s Sons of Ares comic book series will launch in 2017. Fans and retailers are encouraged to follow Dynamite Entertainment and Pierce Brown‘s official Red Rising social media channels for the latest updates regarding creative personnel, release dates, and other details.
