The Avengers edition – Science Fiction vs Science Fact

Euro Media Forum and Science is Culture in collaboration with Eden Cinemas is organising The Avengers Superhero event – Science Fiction vs Science Fact, taking place on Monday 23rd April at 7p.m at the Italian Cultural Institute, St. George”s Square, Valletta opposite The Palace (Malta”s Parliament house) and next door to the Attorney General”s Office.

To coincide with the Avengers Premiere on Thursday the 26th of April at 9 p.m., this event gives a rare insight into the science behind The Avengers” super powers and how these superheroes are part of popular culture, having initially been born and bred in comicbooks, these characters then progressed into books, television films and the internet, they have now entered the world of cinema with a forthcoming film release that”s set to be the cinematic event of the year.

Since the 1960s, Marvel”s caped crusaders of the likes of Ironman, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye amongst others have thoroughly captivated the imagination of the young and the young at heart with their superpowers. Questions abounded as to who would win? Iron Man or Einstein, The Hulk, Captain America or Thor? Can Einstein turn Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr for some) into Iron Man? Probably not, Einstein died eight years before Iron Man was created by Stan Lee. But is this possible through modern science?

Justin Camilleri (the sci-fi film buff) will go head to head with James Ciarlo (the scientist) and David Pace (The Thor and Astronomy enthusiast) to explore the origins and popularity behind Marvel”s The Avengers comic book superhero stories. The speakers will also explore the scientific truths behind creating a super soldier like Captain America, turning a man into The Hulk and the mysteries of Thor”s universe.

The speakers will show the audience through various examples; about what in The Avengers comic book universe actually make scientific sense? And if there is such a thing as a real-life Superhero? The audience is invited to bring along their favourite superhero examples. While the moderator, Alexis Callus will fire it all down, promising a heated debate and fantastic entertainment.

Reference will be made to The Avengers media namely cartoons, books, films. There will also be a quiz competition where specific Avengers questions tied with the discussion will be asked and also a costume competition, the costume theme may vary from Anime to Pirates, Sailor Moon etc winners will win various Eden Cinema prizes which include the following:
