THE FINAL WAVE OF GUESTS AND EXHIBITORS FOR MALTA COMIC CON 2017 ANNOUNCED!

Wicked Comics are proud to announce that guests William Simpson, Chryssv, Simone Di Meo, Kugali, Grafimated Cartoon and Alasdair The Manic Sculptor as well as exhibitors Ashley Eric Peschel, Graphic Novels Library Malta (GNLM), Ivan Xuereb, JapanEats, Kawaii Margit Waas (Happy Paws), Suus de Kock, Warehouse Booksales, Yiying Sui and Pro Wrestling Malta will be joining the previously announced guest and exhibitors amongst the highlights of Malta Comic Convention (MCC) 2017. The 9th edition of the Malta Comic Con (MCC) will be held on Saturday 2rd December (10am-6pm) and Sunday 3rd December (11am-7pm) 2017 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.

William Simpson

William Simpson is an international artist, whose career began in comicstrip art, working on a range of character icons: Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, Batman, Transformers, Hellblazer, Tyranny Rex, Aliens, and Vamps.

In recent years he has developed his work in the film industry providing conceptual art and storyboards for a variety of feature films, such as: ‘Reign of Fire’, directed by Rob Bowman, ‘Freeze Frame’, directed by John Simpson, Neil Jordan’s ‘Breakfast on Pluto’, and most recently, ‘Game of Thrones’ for HBO, David Gordon Green and Danny McBride’s ‘Your Highness’ for Universal, Lord Richard Attenborough’s 2006 production, ‘Closing The Ring’ and the Tom Hanks produced, ‘City Of Ember’.

Chryssv

Chrysso Vassiliou also known as Chryssv is a 24 years old self thought freelance illustrator. For the past 3 years she has been selling digital illustrations and working on commissions through social media. A fan of video games and animation she is currently planning to pursue a career in these fields.

Simone Di Meo

Born in Turin, Italy Simone Di Meo is a comic book artist and cover artist who worked for several Publishers including Titan Comics, Disney WorldWide, Panini Comics, Sergio Bonelli Editore and Albatross Funny Book. He is currently working with Eric Powell for Albatross Funny Book and Orfani: Sam for Sergio Bonelli.

Kugali

Kugali is a digital showcase platform that promotes African comic book artists and writers. They also publish a monthly magazine that features serialized chapters from various African comics as well as articles on African art and culture.

Grafimated Cartoon

Represented by Salvatore Di Marco and Antonino Pirotta Grafimated Cartoon is a cooperative society that produces, promotes and diffuses animated films and comics. It was founded in January 2001 by professionals of the field. With over fifteen years experience, they have participated in several national and international animated film festivals.

They have cooperated in the production of important animated series and feature films such as The Triplets, Cocco Bill, I Cuccioli, La Gabbianella e il Gatto and Aida degli alberi. Grafmated Cartoon also produced “I Vespri Siciliani” and are working on the upcoming feature animated movie “Pinocchio” by Enzo D’Alo.

With “School of Comics-Scuola del Fumetto” they teach the skills to create comics, from pencils to colouring and lettering. In fact in 2011, the school also started publishing comics created by their students.

Alasdair The Manic Sculptor 

Alasdair (The Manic Sculptor) is a self-taught artist from Scotland who creates cute sculptures and whimsical dioramas of characters and creatures from games, comics, cartoons and pop culture. This has been his full-time work for four years, and this will be his first time bringing his art to Malta.

Ashley Eric Peschel

A self confessed geek Ashley Eric Peschel has been writing and creating stories since he was a kid. He wrote the graphic novel S.T.E.A.M. Island Under Siege which along with artist Peter Magro published and launched it during the Malta Comic Con 2015. During the Malta Comic Con Ashley can usually be found either manning the Agenda Bookshop stand or with Peter Magro signing copies of their graphic novel.

Graphic Novels Library Malta (GNLM)

GNLM is an NGO and Youth Organization that uses comics and pop-culture for education, to promote literacy by making learning fun through the use of comics, graphic novels, pop-culture, movies and TV series.

In the summer of 2016 a number of comics and graphic novels were bought and donated to the Central Public Library in Floriana. A section was created at this library to provide room to the comic book medium in their Junior’s library. GNLM organizes a number of events and courses at the Public Library for all ages. These include The Understanding Comics and Creating Comics Course, which are the most popular.

Recently GNLM is also trying to expand into other areas. Coming soon GNLM will be hosting a Magic: The Gathering Club at the Central Public Library in Floriana for children and parents. The idea is to use the space of the library in a fun educational setting but teaching children information literacy, critical thinking, problem solving, resource management, etc.. through the game of Magic: The Gathering.

Ivan Xuereb

Ivan Xuereb has been writing for longer than he likes to admit. His work includes episodes for Maltese teledrama Maskra and a comic book which is currently in production. During the Malta Comic Con, he will be launching his new science fantasy novella.

Kawaii Shop 

Kawaii Shop is a new family run enterprise specializing in the sale of cute things including hand crafted items, figurines, sweets and anime merchandise and collectables. Kawaii will be debuting at the Malta Comic Con and plan to follow up with the opening of an online store.

Margit Waas (Happy Paws)

Margit Waas is an author and former academic. She is currently a volunteer with NGO Happy Paws, organiser and editor of The Malta Playing Arts.

Suus de Kock

Suus de Kock is an artist, writer, and game designer, dabbling in most things creative and nerdy. In her spare time she likes to travel the world to visit comic cons and ensnare innocent bystanders into checking out her artwork, but she also enjoys consuming stories in any shape or form, and occasionally talking about herself in the third person.

Established in 1970’s Warehouse Booksales is a shop in Fgura specialising in old books and comics. Yiying Sui

Currently studying at MCAST, Chinese aspiring illustrator Yiying Sui loves to work with pencils, pencil colours and water colour. Her work which mostly consists of characters mashed with water colours is a tribute to her love of Manga, League of Legends and Memes. This will be her first time exhibiting at the Malta Comic Con.

Pro Wrestling Malta

Pro Wrestling Malta is the first ever and only Pro Wrestling Promotion in Malta. Starting as a Pro Wrestling Academy back in February 2014, it was founded by the only pure Maltese pro wrestler at the time, Wayne Pace, also know by his ring name “The Maltese Warrior “Gianni De La Valette. Aged 20, Wayne left for the UK where he spent several years training and competing in the UK and European Wrestling Circuit. Since he could not learn the art of Pro Wrestling in his home country, Wayne decided to return to Malta to open the Pro Wrestling Academy and give the Maltese the chance to learn this art.

In addition to the monthly private shows at the PWM Academy, Pro Wrestling Malta has a schedule of having 3 major shows a year around the country, which includes local talent as well as attracting major talent from all over the world.

Phase 3 Last Chance Saver tickets are almost sold out but a few are still available online from the Malta Comic Con website (http://www.maltacomic-con.com/tickets) and offline from Pandora’s Box Collectables (Tarxien), Toy Town (Birkirkara) and RC World (Naxxar) at €2 for 1 day and €16 for 2 days.  Once these tickets are sold out, Phase 4 Tickets will be exclusively available from the door on both days of the Comic Con
