With all the buzz around Keanu Reeves‘ triumphant return to the big screen, I just HAD to watch the movie that started it all and…I don’t get it. The movie is not rubbish at all, mind you. In fact I like how it is filmed. But…I don’t get what the fuss is all about. It’s an unintentional parody of cliche i’m-supposed-to-be-retired-but-no-i-m-not flick mixed with a veiled but wonderfully filmed remake of 1994’s The Crow, pacing through the same themes of the circle of violence and revenge and using more or less the same imagery without the funky makeup. Granted that Reeve s performance is better than it once was, but it still leaves much to be desired. The movie s clearly an unintentional parody, highlighted by the hilarious performance of the main antagonists. If anything, give it a watch just for a laugh.
Or that s just my opinion on it.
