Mel0nitsa

Mel0nitsa, also known as Helen, is a Cypriot cosplayer, costume maker, event organiser and full-stack developer. A lifelong fan of anime, gaming and pop culture, she loves bringing characters to life through sewing, creative construction and the wonderfully unpredictable problem-solving behind every cosplay build.

Her cosplay work ranges from fully handmade costumes and carefully researched garment construction to resourceful closet cosplays created by altering and combining thrifted pieces. She particularly enjoys sewing and pattern-making, combining traditional hands-on techniques with digital pattern-making software. She loves studying a character’s design, selecting fabrics, developing patterns and gradually building each costume from its individual layers and details.

Mel0nitsa is particularly interested in researching the construction of traditional garments, including Chinese hanfu and Japanese kimono. She enjoys learning how their layers, proportions and patterns work together, then applying that understanding to her costume-making. For her, this research is part of treating the garments with care while continuing to develop her skills as a maker.

Beyond character cosplay, she also loves Lolita fashion and enjoys dressing in Lolita. She appreciates the creativity, detail and distinctive silhouettes of the style, as well as the freedom it offers for experimenting with clothing, styling and self-expression.

She shares honest works in progress, including the experiments, slow progress and occasional chaos behind the finished costume. For Mel0nitsa, cosplay is not simply about wearing a character. It is a reason to research, learn unfamiliar techniques, solve problems and continually develop as a maker. Most importantly, it is a way to form friendships and connect with a creative community.

Helen is a co-founder and one of the core organisers of Cyprus Comic Con, which she has helped develop since 2012. As its Cosplay Coordinator, she oversees the Mediterranean Cosplay Championship and the Cyprus Comic Con Masquerade, working closely with contestants, judges and international guests. Her role covers everything from competition planning and judging coordination to stage production and creating a welcoming, supportive experience for the cosplay community.

Helen has also judged cosplay competitions, bringing together her experience as a costume maker, cosplayer and organiser. She values craftsmanship, creativity, accuracy and performance, while also believing that judging should be fair, constructive and respectful of the work and passion behind every entry.

Outside the convention world, Helen is the co-founder and full-stack developer of DonDaKe. Her work often brings together creativity, technology, community-building and live-event production.

Mel0nitsa believes that conventions are at their best when they give people a genuine sense of friendship and belonging. After being deeply moved by Malta Comic Con’s close-knit community during her visit in 2025, she is delighted to return in 2026 as a cosplay guest.
