Before talking about the book I have to mention the movie, Spider-man: Into the Spider-Verse!

Hailed as one of the best Spider-Man movies in years, Into the Spider-Verse delivers in spades. The movie has amazing visuals combined with excellent story telling. The story has heart! From start to finish the movie is a perfect balance of emotional scenes combined with good comedic bits and action sequences. The script manages to juggle dramatic moments and humor flawlessly. Miles Morales is a kid everyone can relate to. He is not the perfect hero but a student/teenager who has trouble understanding his place in the world. From the moment he is bitten by the iconic radioactive spider and given super powers, instead of immediately deciding to become a superhero and save the day, it takes him some time to learn and figure out how to use his powers and what he can do with them. All the other characters introduced manage to do a great job of introducing themselves without hindering the pacing of the movie. Into the Spider-Verse is an enjoyable movie, which makes you wish there was more from this universe to learn more about these character.

This is where the Special Book comes in. Even Though the book does not offer any extra stories, it does offer some insight into the creation of the movie. From interviews with the director and how the design animation work progressed, this book includes several snapshots and sketches of the characters from the movie with additional information about them. I especially liked the chapters on design since the movie has some iconic visuals that are really breathtaking. Something which surprised me in the villains section of the book is the exclusion of a chapter on Scorpio. In my opinion he was more present in the movie than the Green Goblin, and even his design was quite different from his other incarnations in other forms of media.

Over all the book is quite fun to read. It gives readers something extra to do after watching the movie. If you liked the movie then this book will be an enjoyable addition to the full ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ experience.
