Susan Waitt’s NIGHT GALLERY : The Uncanny and The Sublime Art Exhibition runs from Saturday, 29th October through Friday 25th November 2016 at The Fortress Builders – Malta’s Fortification Interpretation Centre, Triq San Mark, Valletta
The sublime in art reaches deep into the psychological experience — past uncertainty, past awe in the face of un-nameable natural processes — into the terrain of the obscure , the uncanny and the supra-natural. For the purposes of this unusual exhibition of 22 artworks I have limited my brush to depicting the un-nerving, disturbing and creepy images of murky worlds that lie just below the reach of reason. Obscurity, after all, may have a more powerful effect on the imagination than clarity.
