Malta Premiere of the Manetti Bros Film, in the Presence of Diabolik Illustrator Riccardo Nunziati
On 8 November at 2.45pm, at Eden Cinemas (St Julian’s), the first-ever screening in Malta of the film directed by the Manetti Bros, Diabolik: Who Are You?, will take place in Italian with English subtitles. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A session with Riccardo Nunziati, one of the leading illustrators of the legendary imprint Astorina, which continues to publish the Diabolik comic series to this day.
The first attendees, on a first-come, first-served basis, will receive a limited edition print – only fifty copies – of an illustration specially created by Riccardo Nunziati himself, individually numbered and signed.
The screening is organised within the framework of the Malta Comic Con (8-9 November), during which MaltaPost will issue a Maltese-themed stamp celebrating the character of Diabolik, also illustrated by Riccardo Nunziati.
This event is the result of a collaboration between the Department of Italian and the M.A. in Film Studies at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Arts, Wicked Comics – the NGO that has been organising the Malta Comic Con for many years – and Eden Cinemas.
Diabolik is an iconic Italian anti-hero created in 1962 by Angela Giussani, later joined by her sister Luciana, for their publishing house Astorina. A master thief, genius of disguise, and cold-blooded criminal with a strict personal code, Diabolik operates in the fictional city of Clerville, outsmarting both the police and rival criminals with his intellect and cutting-edge gadgets. Despite his ruthless nature, his deep and loyal bond with his charming partner Eva Kant has made him one of Italy’s most enduring, popular, and complex comic-book characters.
