Dave King

Dave King has many years of experience as a director, script writer, storyboard artist and producer.
He began his professional career in comic books and publishing, writing and drawing for Marvel
Comics UK, Fleetway Publications, and DC Thomson on strips including Count Duckula, Rugrats,
Barbie, Beetlejuice, The Spice Girls, and Dennis the Menace and Desperate Dan, for The Beano and
The Dandy. After being selected as an approved artist (initially for the UK), King worked extensively
with Warner Bros. Worldwide Publishing and DC Comics, scripting and drawing Looney Tunes, Tiny
Toon Adventures, Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain and Taz Mania.


In 1996, he co-art directed the music video for the song, Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, by the
band U2, taken from the soundtrack of the movie, Batman Forever. The video won two awards in the
MTV European Music Awards, and in 2012 was selected by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the
Greatest Animated Music Videos Ever.


Moving into animation, King worked with many of the UK’s leading animation houses, including
Cosgrove Hall, Collingwood O’Hare, and HOT Animation. He storyboarded on shows including Andy
Pandy, Eddy and the Bear, Engie Benjy, Pond Life, and Rotten Ralph.


In a long association with Cartoon Network UK, King worked on promo material for shows from
Scooby Doo and The Flintstones to Johnny Bravo, Ed, Edd n Eddy and The Powerpuff Girls. He was
animation director on the two series of the channel’s first in-house productions: VBirds and VBirds:
Perfect and a scriptwriter for the channel’s live action/animation quiz show, Skatoony.


His work covers films, TV, advertising and the music industry as an animation director, art director,
storyboard artist and scriptwriter, for clients including the BBC, Sky, Nickelodeon, MTV, Touchwood
Animation, Hot Animation, Red Bee Media, Aftenposten, Kai-tama Entertainment, and Passion
Pictures.


He has worked extensively in education, as a lecturer in animation and film, at schools and
universities including The Animation Workshop in Denmark and Arts University Bournemouth in the
UK.


He now works with his own company, Dave King Creative, to develop film, television and multimedia
projects.
